First introduced in 1966, and in production for almost 3 decades, the Alfa Romeo Spider needs no lengthy introduction.

Designed by no other than the legendary Pinin Farina himself, the Spider is one of the most recognizable open sports cars in history.

Conceived when la dolce vita was the modus operandus in Italy, the Spider's styling is as sexy today as it was back in the 1960s. It's fair to call it "timeless."

A Series 2 car (1970-1982/'83), VIN *11541/0006733* was manufactured in February of 1979 at Pininfarina in Grugliasco, Italy, and consequently shipped to Long Beach, California. It's one of only 4,129 cars made that year.

Presumably a Calfornia resident ever since, this '79 model has escaped the dreaded rust worm and presents itself today in a remarkable state of preservation.

Motorvation comes from the legendary Alfa Romeo tipo 115.41 2-liter DOHC-inline 4, powered by the SPICA mechanical fuel injection. It delives 130 horsepower and 131 lb·ft of torque.

The fuel injection has just been serviced at a marque specialist in Santa Barbara (original invoce dated 1/15/25 for $826.18 included).
The engine runs strong, doesn't smoke, doesn't leak any fluids, and still sounds like as sexy as its 1960s siblings do.

At the same time, Master Emilio also installed a new clutch master cylinder, and we just a few days ago installed a new transmission mount from Alfa specialist Centerline.

Alfa's body is straight as an arrow, with no flaws to report other than a ding on the right rear panel that a ding master could probably remove without breaking a sweat.
The paint looks original, but almost too good to be 35 years old, so it also could be an older, high quality repaint in the original color.

Originally Alfa Romeo Spiders of this vintage came from the factory with a vinyl top. This one has been upgraded to a black canvas top.

The top is in excellent condition, without a rip or tear or repaired section anywhere.

Amazingly, the Spider's top can be opened and closed with 1 hand while waiting at a red light!
With the top down, the Spider becomes on of the best summer convertibles I can think of.

The Alfa Romeo Spider is a pure 2-seater with some space for a furry friend or some duffle bags behind the seats.

The cockpit is typical Italian sport car, with a large steering wheel and a setup similar to that of a contemporary Ferrari.

Venyl-covered dash appears crack free; original carpeting has been preserved by accessory floor mats, which come with the car.

Large wooden steering wheel frame the two hooded main gauges, a tachometer with 6,000 rpm redline and a 140 mph speedometer.

The three accessory gauges in the center report fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature.
In-dash Sony CD head unit is the sole aftermarket item here.

Seats are covered in two-tone vinyl; bottom of driver's seat shows moderate wear on the inner left corner.

Plenty of space for additional luggage, a furry friend, or a leg-less dwarf behind the seats.

Sexy Kammtail back. All lights work. Registration is valid 'til August of 2025. Car will be sold with a new Smog Certificate.

Open wide!
Let's move on to the trunk.

Deck lid is perfect, without a hint of corrosion anywhere.

Original felt carpeting throughout. Battery is located at the right corner, super easy to access. Again, no hint of corrosion here as either!

Original spare with date-coded Michelin tire.

Undercarriage is clean and shows no corrosion other than some light surface corrosion on the exhaust system.

Clean engine sump, 5-speed transmission, which looks like it has been re-sealed, and differential.

If you are looking for an attractive 1960s sports convertible for under $10K, your options are limited. If you want one that was built in Italy, you'll have to choose between a Fiat 124 and an Alfa Romeo Spider. I'd choose the latter any day of the week, twice on Sundays.

While not a show car by any means, this is a healthy classic in fine fettle throughout. You can hop in and drive it home, across the country if that's where you live.

Opportunty knocks; are you ready to answer?
