The extremely low mileage of 37,186 is confirmed by the clean history report, shown below.
This 560SL's engine bay looks absolutely untouched. It houses the original 5.6-liter, light-alloy SOHC V8 motor, featuring the fabulous BOSCH KE Motronic fuel injection. Giving the contemporary Porsche 911 Carrera a run for the money, it takes a mere 7.5 seconds to propel this veritable street rocket from a standing start to 60 mph. Top speed of the 560SL is 137mph, again, clearly Porsche 911 territory!
Needless to say, absence of wear and tear is further corroboration of the very low odometer reading. Even upon close inspection, the unrestored engine compartment presents itself virtually toothbrush clean.
Delivered in the beautiful shade of light ivory (factory code #632), this 560SL looks positively stunning. There are no dings, dents, scratches, bubbles, or rock chips to lose sleep over. The small, European-style bumpers look gorgeous and all the other brightwork and weatherstripping appears equally beautiful.
The elegant, removable hardtop is part of the package. Its condition speaks for itself. Practical hardtop stand is included.
The factory alloy's chrome finish sparkles and the Michelin rubber on all 4 corners is near new.
The world's ultimate tanning machine's cockpit exudes a luxurious Old World ambiance. Burl Walnut veneer and genuine, unmarked, chocolate brown leather set dominant interior accents, worthy of a Rolls Royce or Bentley. Velour carpeting and floor mats are spotless, like new.
Dash presents itself in pristine condition, without any of the hairline cracking that so often mars California SLs.
Standard equipment includes power windows, power-operated passenger-side rearview mirror, vacuum-operated power locking system, height-adjustable driver's seat, automatic climate control, and cruise control.
Some of the small, but important, details a collector will look for: the orange gauge pointers display no hint of sun fading. Steering wheel is OEM and shows absolutely zero wear. Stereo has never been "updated," still remains the tried-and-true BECKER Grand Prix model.
Thirty-one year old leather seats look pristine in every way.
Note OEM-supplied, untouched First Aid kit.
This 560SL still features its factory-installed, dark brown soft top, pristinely preserved.
Note the small, embossed M-B logos gracing all of the three crystal clear rear windows.
Spotless trunk.
Unused, complete tool roll. PIRELLI Cinturato spare has never touched the ground. Rust free spare tire well.
Dry, rust free undercarriage showing hints of the factory-applied Cosmoline protective wax. Given the car's history, it would be fair to claim that it has never seen inclement weather use.
The engine runs quiet and smooth, yet it pulls strongly from idle all the way to its 6,000 rpm redline. No untoward noises, smoke, or fluid leaks spoil the favorable first impression. Over-engineered in the true meaning of the term, this fine SL should provide many years of faithful service with just the continued routine servicing the car is accustomed to.
Driving this gorgeous Roadster, especially with the top down, one enters an uplifting zone of well-being. The car possesses an aura of unmatched quality and elegance, not found in any of its successors. Park it in the circular driveway of the most expensive mansion in the neighborhood and it'll looks perfectly at home, proving that no car ages as beautifully as a Mercedes R107-model SL.
